Three Love Poems For National Poetry Day

Explaining Love To A 38 Year-Old With The Use Of Metaphor

THIS IS A METAPHOR.
It’s not a real Thing.
It’s a Thing that represents another Thing,
Not this Thing, the other Thing.

But this is a poem, so
What it’s saying
Is that the thing saying it’s The Thing
IS the other Thing,
Not just like it
It’s saying it is the other Thing
Even though it obviously isn’t.

The Thing that represents the Thing
Is not really A Thing.
It’s only a signpost for The Thing.

Makes you wonder why they don’t just
Say what The Thing is,
Doesn’t it?
Instead of talking about a completely different Thing.
But that’s Language, isn’t it?
A needlessly-complex system of, umm…
Oh, it’s a minefield, isn’t it?
It’s barb wire, it’s a sadface smiley, it’s…
Ummm…..
Metaphorical, or something.

Anyway, well….
One of the Things is
Love.

What makes the world go round?

What makes the world go round…?
Some will say it’s money and some will say it’s love
But those people know not where they speak of.

What makes the world go round?
Conservation of angular momentum,
Based on interplanetary systems
Of gravitation
And that’s pull and momentum

What makes the world go round?
Conservation of angular momentum
But I have no proof
That angular momentum
Is not made of money
And I’ve seen no evidence that shows
That conservation of angular momentum is not
Love.

What Women Really Want

How the fuck would I know?

There’s billions of them.
