Three Poems On The Sickness Of The Age

THE RECENT RISE OF FASCISM IN BRITAIN

Have you ever noticed that the X Factor auditions
Look just like the Nuremberg rally?
It can’t just be me.

And their boot camp second round of auditions have taken on the appearance
Of the Stalinist show trials of the 1940s.

Everyone reckons that we’re threatened by the rise of fascism,
And I agree, to some degree.
But, to me, the fascists are the ones that run TV
Not the wee fuckwits runnin’ ‘round Burnley

And, if you tolerate this, then
Your children will
Shop at Next.

DIGITAL AGE

We live in a digital age,
So now the bus stops have got digital displays
Buses still never come on time,
But now they tell us roughly how late they’ll be
What an age we live in…
What a long way we’ve come.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER AND THE LAST DAYS OF ROME

Have you seen this programme?
It’s like a Nazi propaganda film
Set to 1980s rock music.

It’s the vilest thing that’s ever been
Shat onto a television screen.
And it’s really, really entertaining.

We’re drowning in our arrogance and hubris
And that’s why everyone hates us.
Especially us.
